A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first championship since the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.

Victory also means Medvedev has secured 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

His defensive play style and frequent reactions on court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

He defended four initial break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
